2021 Canadian Car of the Year finalists announced ahead of February reveal

Mazda, Nissan, Toyota, Chevrolet and Kia see nominations across multiple categories

The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) mid-January announced three finalists in each of eight categories for its 2021 Canadian Car of the Year and Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year awards.

Over 250 vehicles were eligible for the awards, despite the pandemic. The finalists were chosen by journalists, and feature vehicles that have be been newly redesigned or refreshed for the past model year.

In the Best Mid-Size Car category, the finalists are the Mazda3, Nissan Sentra, and Toyota Corolla. Best Large Car included the Hyundai Sonata, Kia K5, and Toyota Camry. The Best Mid-Size Premium Car finalists are the Cadillac CT5, Genesis G70, and Genesis G80.

The Best Small Utility Vehicle category pits the Kia Seltos, Mazda CX-30, and Subaru Crosstrek against each other for the award. One of the most important categories, Best Mid-Size Utility Vehicle, positions the Mazda CX-5, Nissan Rogue, and Toyota Venza as finalists.

For Best Large Utility Vehicle, we have the Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Kia Telluride. The Best Mid-Size Premium Utility Vehicle category is populated by the Genesis GV80, Land Rover Defender, and Lincoln Corsair.

Best Full-Size Pick-up Truck features the Chevrolet Silverado, Nissan Titan, and Ram 1500. Interestingly, the all-new F-150 was not chosen.

The award will be presented during the 2021 Montreal International Auto Show TVA broadcast on February 20, 2021, at 10:00 am EST.
