Never heard of it? Neither had we, but it’s actually a pretty nifty program, both for sharing unmarked or repeat addresses in the city; or pinpointing off-road destinations like the entrance to a trail.
Acting essentially like Google or Apple Maps’ “drop pin” feature, what3words allows users to share, locate, or navigate to exact spots down to the 3-metre square, anywhere on Earth, each such square being identified by a random combination of three words.
The refreshed 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross – the GT trim, more specifically – will run the what3words program in your choice of 17 languages on its internal TomTom navigation system, which is a first, but the real note here is that it will function offline, no data, app, or cellular connection needed.
For a few examples of these squares that you can navigate to simply by entering their words into the what3words interface, try ///boom.manuals.trample , a.k.a. the Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada HQ in Brampton, Ontario; Justin Trudeau’s current residence at Rideau Cottage, ///mistress.decks.symphony ; or the tip of the Eiffel Tower, ///investor.savings.lance .
