Jeep has unveiled its all-new 2022 Grand Cherokee lineup, which includes a Trailhawk ultra-off-roader and the brand’s first plug-in hybrid (PHEV) — and you’ll even be able to get a combination of those two, a plug-in Trailhawk.

The Grand Cherokee now moves into its fifth generation, with an all-new platform, and new interior and exterior styling. Most models will go on sale in Canada later in 2021, with the electrified Grand Cherokee 4xe arriving early in 2022.
The 4xe is expected to get 40 km of all-electric driving after it’s been plugged in and charged. Once that runs out, it automatically reverts to conventional gasoline/electric hybrid operation, with a combined range of more than 708 km and rating of 4.1 Le/100 km. The driver can select electric or hybrid modes, “saving” the charge to use when desired.
It uses a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine with eight-speed automatic transmission, two electric motors, and a 400-volt battery pack. The system produces 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque; has a Quadra Trac II 4×4 system with two-speed transfer case; and can tow up to 6,000 lbs. The 4xe system will be available on the Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve trim levels.

The new Trailhawk trim includes new sway bar disconnect, rear limited-slip differential, air suspension, 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, off-road camera, and Selec-Speed Control, a low-speed cruise-control function for off-road driving. The Trailhawk 4xe will have up to 27.8 cm (10.9 inches) of ground clearance, and can ford water up to 61 cm (24 inches).
The all-new Grand Cherokee has more interior passenger and cargo volume over the outgoing model. Available features include a front passenger screen, rear-seat entertainment system, Quadra-Lift air suspension, 19-speaker McIntosh audio system, night vision camera, and hands-on automated driving assist.
Engine choices include a 3.6L “Pentastar” V6 or 5.7L V8, which gives the Grand Cherokee a maximum towing capacity of 7,200 lbs. Pricing will be announced closer to the on-sale date.
