In the first 12 hours after it became available, around 20,000 people scrambled to place a pre-order for the first mass-production electric Ford truck, the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning

Hype for the truck was real, with the company releasing a teaser of it pulling a 1-million-pound train , and even having POTUS take a rip in a camouflaged mule days before the reveal.

But for every person champing at the bit to reserve one of the pickups, there were 100 happy to just sit on their wallets and sling comments around the Internet. We browsed those comments and took Twitter’s temperature to determine that there is indeed a case of Lightning Fever sweeping the continent.

Comparisons to the Tesla Cybertruck were inevitable — Musk’s planar pickup was, after all, one of the first electric trucks announced, and is set to be put to market by one of the most buzz-worthy brands in the world, so it’s the obvious benchmark.
