Ford's 2022 Mustang adds Stealth option, rumours say higher trims will lose power
There's a California Edition GT Performance Package, too, but, hold on, what's this about the GT dropping 10 horsepower?

Ford has let a few ponies out of the 2022 Mustang’s corral, according to new reports by Ford Authority. The GT and Mach 1 trims of the upcoming-model-year sports car will run a naturally aspirated 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 engine that for one reason or another (probably emissions) is less powerful than that of its predecessor, by 10 horsepower and 10 lb-ft of torque, according to insider info collected by that blog.

It’s not a big number, to be fair, and you might not even miss it. In the GT, it just means the mill goes from 460 hp to 450; and in the Mach 1, that output drops from 480 to 470. Both would see torque ratings go from 420 lb-ft to 410 lb-ft, too, if the rumours bear out.
But the Blue Oval hasn’t been advertising the reduction in power in its leading sports car, if there really is one, just yet, deciding instead to focus on the addition of a couple new model options, including a new Stealth Edition and the first California Special available with the GT Performance Package.
Let’s all have a look on the bright side, shall we? Well, as bright as a darkened Stealth package can get.

With blacked-out features like 19-inch Ebony Black painted wheels, black badges, black mirror caps, and black instrument panel badging inside, the Stealth Edition aims to be the most “sinister” Mustang model, appropriate for the Halloween season it’s being announced in. It also includes a performance rear wing, LED taillight covers that it shares with the Mustang Ice White appearance package, and an illuminated sill plate.
Available colours for the Stealth Edition include, in order of “sinisterness,” Shadow Black, Dark Matter, Carbonized Gray, and Atlas Blue.

The California Special will now also be available with the GT Performance Package, marking a nameplate first. The 2022 Mustang GT California Special is based on the GT Premium fastback and convertible models, and features a larger front splitter, a black-and-red GT/CS badge on the grille, a heritage-inspired side stripe that runs from the front fender to the signature rear fender scoop, and five-spoke 19-inch painted machined wheels.
The California Special fastback gets a wing where the convertible doesn’t, and both are available in Shadow Black, Oxford White, Atlas Blue, Carbonized Gray, Cyber Orange, Dark Matter, Grabber Blue Metallic, Iconic Silver, and Rapid Red.

Interior marks like sued-trimmed doors and seats, red contrast stitching, a carbon hex aluminum-finished instrument panel, and embroidered floor mats distinguish the Cali from the GT Performance it’s based on.
Ford Canada has confirmed that both the Stealth Edition and the California Special will be sold in Canada. Orders for the 2022 Mustang begin later this year, with deliveries scheduled for early 2022.
