If the police pull over and bust four vehicles and charge them with “racing one another, driving on the shoulder, passing dangerously and making unsafe lane changes” — ticking all the street racing boxes — how many tow trucks will be involved?

Eight! Eight tow trucks will be required because the four original idiots are all driving…tow trucks!

OPP in Milton had the (dis)pleasure of hauling over the hotrod quad on Sunday as they booted through westbound traffic on the 401 around 5:30 pm. They were hauled over near Highway 25 by police.

“Ontario instituted harsher penalties for street racing last month with driver licence suspensions increasing from seven days to 30 and vehicle impoundment doubling from seven to 14 days. The threshold for laying street charges of 50 km/h or more over the posted limit was lowered to 40 km/h or more where the speed limit is less than 80 km/h. Upon conviction, fines can range from $200 to $10,000,” reports Inside Halton .

Though the drivers — representing three different companies — did not exceed the speed thresholds, it’s a good reminder that your vehicle will end up gone for two weeks and your licence will be immediately suspended for one more than just speed. The street racing charge also encompasses all of those dangerous manoeuvres listed above. To paraphrase the 1964 Supreme Court Judge describing porn: you’ll know it when you see it.

Whether out with their buds or en route to a crash, tow trucks are still required to follow the rules of the road.
