Got V12? The new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class does, we've discovered

And we've even ordered one, although we have to wait for it to come from Russia

After unveiling a new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class late last year, in Germany and China, Daimler has very quietly revealed that it will include the S680, with a V12 under that long hood, and with 612 horsepower on tap.

We last saw a twleve-cylinder in the 2020 Mercedes-Maybach S650 sedan, which carried a 6.0L making 621 horsepower; the car also came with a twin-turbo 4.0L V8. Mercedes-Benz Canada shows the all-new 2021 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class arriving only with a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 with a mild-hybrid “EQ Boost” system.

But Daimler has recently revealed a couple of photos – pictures only, with no accompanying information – of a twelve-cylinder engine, along with an “S680” trunk badge, and “V12” fender designation.

And acting on a tip from publication Motor1 , we slipped over to Mercedes-Benz’s consumer site in Russia, and with some help from Google Translate, built ourselves an S680. The specs show we’re getting a 6.0L V12 that makes 612 horsepower, a nine-speed automatic transmission, and we’ll get from zero to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, to a maximum speed of 250 km/h. That’s pretty quick, considering it weighs 2,350 kg. While it isn’t mentioned on the configurator, Mercedes-Benz says the car is all-wheel drive.

We’re not sure exactly what options we ordered, but it does appear that we owe 27,850,000 rubles before we can take delivery, which works out to about $456,770 in Canadian coins. We may have to start a Go Fund Me to actually get this thing home.
