The company calls the TrailSport its “new halo” among its light trucks, and it will be the first in a series of TrailSport editions that will be offered in other vehicles.

It is now the mid-level of the 2022 Passport’s three trims, apparently replacing the EX-L. While we don’t yet have Canadian pricing, the 2021 Passport runs from $43,670 to $50,670.

The refresh includes updated front and rear styling, new hood with power bulge, new rear bumper, larger exhaust finishers, and new 18- and 20-inch wheel designs. All trim levels receive a standard rear seatbelt reminder system, as well as a rear seat reminder that warns drivers to check the rear seat when getting out, in case anyone or anything’s been forgotten.

A sporty HPD Edition will be available, created alongside Honda Performance Development. It includes a unique grille and wheels, black fender flares, and HPD graphics on the rear quarter panel.

The new Passport TrailSport includes a unique grille, and more aggressive front and rear bumpers with silver-painted skid garnish designs. The front and rear tracks are 10 mm wider, and its machined 18-inch wheels have 245/60R18 tires with sidewall tread for a more rugged look.

Inside, the TrailSport features orange contrast stitching, a logo on the front head restraints, black chrome gauge surround, and ambient lighting. The windshield includes a heated wiper-park area to keep them from sticking in cold weather. Honda said the TrailSport will get more off-road upgrades in future, such as more aggressive tires and suspension tuning.

As before, all 2022 Passport trim levels use a 3.5L V6, making 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, with a nine-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive with torque vectoring is standard, able to send up to 70 per cent of power to the rear, and then splitting up to 100 per cent of that between the left or right rear wheel as needed. Depending on how it’s equipped, the Passport’s maximum towing capacity ranges from 3,500 to 5,000 lbs.
