Subaru WRX tops list of U.S. vehicles with most speeding tickets (again)

In fact, a whole bunch of Subaru models apparently have owners liable to get caught driving too fast

The Subaru WRX is on top once again. For the third consecutive year, the WRX has been named the vehicle with the most speeding tickets in the United States.

It’s an impressive showing for Subaru in the list from auto insurance provider Insurify . The WRX tops the list with 18.8 per cent of drivers having a speeding ticket; while its sibling BRZ comes in at number five, with 16.21 per cent; and the Impreza sits in ninth with 14.81 percent. The U.S. national average is 9.59 per cent.

Insurify collects the research through more than four million insurance applications, spanning 393 vehicle models. Customers looking for insurance quotes or services input their driving history, including their vehicle make and model, as part of standard applications.

It should come as no surprise that half of the vehicles on the list are sports cars, while the biggest outlier comes in at number seven, with the GMC C1500 showing 15.31 per cent of its drivers netting a speeding infraction.

Another interesting takeaway from the results is that the biggest offenders have more favourable price tags. Each of the 10 models on the list that includes sports cars, a pickup, luxury and compact vehicles all come in under the national average of US$41,044 (CDN$51,645), according to J.D. Power’s Automotive Forecast (July 2021). The easy assumption, as Insurify highlights, is there are likely more affordable vehicles on the road, and thus they are more likely to be nabbed for speeding.

And while we don’t encourage speed or any other forms of reckless driving, Subaru WRX drivers can at least take some comfort in knowing their car was a 2021 Top Safety Pick and received the highest possible crash prevention rating from IIHS.

Drive safe, everyone!
