Mercedes-Benz is offering Dolby Atmos on it highest-end 2022 models

The German automaker's Maybach and S-Class limos will be the "Surreal Sound" system's opening acts

Cranking up the volume on premium audio systems, Mercedes-Benz is introducing the symphonic-sounding 21-speaker Dolby Atmos on its high-end offerings as of summer 2022.

But why stop at 21? When Atmos hits the German automaker’s cars, the company’ll add another 10 speakers to the score for an astounding 31. Highlights include six 3D speakers above the passengers; four “near-ear” speakers for the two front seats; an 18.5-liter subwoofer; and two hidden “exciters” (a speaker without a frame or cone) for each seat.

With great power comes great responsibility, so the system’s 1,750 watts will be bolstered by two amplifiers.

Mercedes’ Maybach limousine will be the opening act for this new Atmos collaboration, with the top-tier S-Class seeing it added to the option list directly afterward. Price-wise, be ready to tack on an extra $6,730 (on the S-Class order form) for the feature; that figure also covers the cost of the necessary Burmester 4D and 3D surround sound that lets Atmos do its thing.

Mercedes-Maybach models will skip that cost — the system’s already included in the car’s nearly $200,000 price tag.
