Some of vehicles have an intermittent problem where the turn signals are activating the wrong signal. Basically, when the driver uses the right turn signal, the left one may begin to flash, and vice-versa.

The affected models include the 2015, 2016, and 2017 Hyundai Sonata, including the 2016 and 2017 Sonata Hybrid and Sonata Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV); and the 2015, 2016, and 2017 Kia Sedona minivans.

Safety concerns are fairly obvious: inoperable or faulty turn signals can cause confusion on the roads and increase the chances of an accident.

Hyundai and Kia will be notifying affected owners by mail, and then further instructing them to take their vehicles to a dealer where they’ll need to update the software for the Smart Junction Box.

You can also check  online at Transport Canada,  using your VIN. Transport Canada’s number for Hyundai’s recall is 2021-589, while the manufacturer’s recall number is R0199. For Kia, Transport Canada’s recall number is 2021-574 and the manufacturer’s recall number is RC151.
