Porsche harnesses 1.2 gigawatts for 'Back to the Future' Day celebrations
The automaker claims there's that much power within its fast-charging network, and decided to find a DeLorean to celebrate

Back to the Future has plenty of fans, but today we’re sharing an entire company’s affinity for the film. Porsche is commemorating BTTF Day with a special video clip of its own.

In case you were wondering, Back to the Future Day occurs every October 21. It’s the day Marty McFly and Doc Brown travel to in the movie, and usually a day when all the DeLoreans come out to play.
In the movie, the duo needs a power source of 1.21 gigawatts to achieve a speed of 88 mph in the iconic DeLorean, which helps them return to their proper time. Porsche claims that much power is currently contained within its fast-charging network in North America and Europe.

It’s a thin thread to follow, but Porsche is doing it anyway, culminating with this short film that stars the iconic movie car alongside the Porsche Taycan .

While automakers can seem stoic and business-oriented, it’s always fun to see them let loose and showcase their goofy side. Porsche earns a few points in our book for the nostalgia trip and call-back to one of the more adventurous movies of the ‘80s.
What’s next? Will they unearth some automotive ghosts and restore some cars ahead of the Ghostbusters: Afterlife debut? Maybe a Porsche-powered Ecto-1 would do the trick?
