‘Jesus’ allegedly caused an accident in B.C. this week
Christ almighty! That’s one distracting billboard!
I’m no police officer, but I’ve got to imagine that the list of excuses for causing a car accident, or for speeding, really, is lengthy. This week, a British Columbian motorist who caused a collision on Highway 3, a 840-kilometre-long stretch of road that runs east-west across the southern part of the province, had a unique response after being questioned by RCMP. The driver said it was Jesus’ fault.
Well, sort of.

The female driver of a Subaru SUV collided with the trailer of another SUV while making a right turn, but the accident wasn’t a fluke. The motorist told the Grand Forks Gazette that it was a result of being distracted by a large red billboard on the side of the highway addressing the Son of God himself.

The billboard is all text and in white, all-caps lettering, quoting a passage from the Bible that reads, “For the wages of sin is death; But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
To be fair, it is an alarmingly bright red sign that catches the eye almost immediately. But an enormous photo advertising the Grand Big Mac would be just as distracting, IMO.
There weren’t any charges laid, but ICBC is now involved, and if you’ve ever had a car insurance in B.C. you know there’s no praying away a premium increase after a claim with them.
