Canada gets turbo engine and AWD Hyundai Santa Cruz, but with higher entry-level price than U.S.
Pricing for the all-new 2022 Santa Cruz has been announced. Canadians looking to get into the latest version of the compact pickup will have to fork out a minimum of $38,499, which is considerably more than the U.S. starting price of US$23,990. What gives? Well, all Canadians get the Santa Cruz with a turbo 2.5L four-pot making 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque, which is connected to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with AWD. In America, that setup is only available in the top trim, which costs US$35,680, while all the rest get a non-turbo engine and front-wheel-drive on lower trims. The 2022 Santa Cruz is slated to go on sale this September; more details on what to expect from Canadian trims here .

In a court case that allegedly took just 20 minutes for the judge to rule, a California BMW driver has been found guilty of “ breaching the covenant of quiet enjoyment” in his neighbourhood by driving his too-loud car around in a “reckless” manner. The case, which came to our attention a few months ago via a Tweet shipped by the accused, wound up costing the driver US$5,500, which was paid to his neighbours, plus legal fees. The Tweet reads, “$2k a year for loss of quiet enjoyment of their home BAHHAHAHAHA.” We haven’t seen any more Tweets from the guy, but he’s probably not laughing now.

A driver in the Halton region of Ontario wasn’t picking up what police were putting down and wound up having to be told twice in one week that the vehicle he was driving was not up to legal snuff. And by “told” we do of course mean “fined.” Appearing on the police’s Twitter feed both times, the driver was first busted and ticketed for “no muffler” on July 17. Then, a week later not far from the same spot, the same driver in the same car was pulled over again, this time charged with speeding, obstructed plates, and excessive noise due to the missing muffler. It’s usually the ‘third,’ but hopefully in this case, second time is a charm.
Toyota reveals detailed photos of the new Tundra’s interior
‘Yota is giving truck fans a glimpse inside its new half-tonne Tundra pickup through a number of interior photos highlighting the seats, digital controls, and wireless charging station. There’s a new command dial on the centre console near the gear selector and surrounded by a number of buttons for features like Crawl mode, Tow/Haul mode, and other off-road drive modes. The seats are bright red and perforated (suggesting heating and ventilation) and feature the TRD Pro logo on the backrest. Check out the full set of teaser images here .

Silverado does donut and wrecks truck, nearly hits pedestrian
Check out this attempted donut performed by a Chevrolet Silverado pickup driver pulling out of a ‘sideshow’ somewhere in the U.S. A video of the event posted to Reddit shows the truck peeling out coming out of a parking lot, trying to get sideways to donut around a meridian. But the Silverado doesn’t start spinning wheels in time and ends up taking the corner too wide, slamming into the curb with its rear wheel and nearly crushing a bystander who had cozied up to the road to take some footage for himself. The truck’s wheel instantly snaps off and gets pinched beneath the frame — likely saving the vehicle from far greater body damage — but the real maneuver of note is the leap the man watching makes at the last minute to avoid getting crunched by the truck’s box. Nice hops, kid.
