Now even commercial truckers are trying to run fake plates in Ontario

The driver didn’t even put any effort into recreating a sticker with an expiry date

It may have been posted April Fool’s Day, and, sure, it’s kind of funny, but fake license plates are no joke. Peel Region saw Ontario’s newest fake plate, or at least the newest one posted to social media — a seemingly new trend.

The Peel Regional Police Road Safety Services posted this pre-Easter gift to its Twitter account. The tweet includes a picture of the officer’s vehicle and stopped truck with the questionable license plate, also pictured.

It’s important to note this homemade license plate was, at the very least, spelled correctly — can’t say the same about last week’s homemade license plate from Kingston . Unfortunately, the trucker did forget to add the expiry sticker.

According to the Twitter account, the officer ensured the truck driver was given “a truck load of tickets.”

One witty Twitter user responded “It’s more legible than the new blue license plates.”

A fake plate is actually a pretty bold move on a commercial vehicle. It could lead to many follow-up questions and concerns. If the driver had a fake plate, it’s possible a few other legally-required things could have been neglected, after all.

All commercial vehicle drivers must carry a valid commercial vehicle operator’s registration (CVOR); getting pulled over for a fake plate would be the least of the trucker’s worries.
