Before today, such a statement would have been purely anecdotal and likely dismissed as an exaggeration used to disparage Ram owners, but now the joke is actually backed up by numbers.

A recent study by insurance aggregator Insurify compiled data from 2.7 million insurance applications in order to determine which vehicles were the most likely to have a driver that had been cited a with DUI.

The applications require drivers to input what vehicle they intend to insure; Insurify simply cross-referenced that information with an applicant’s driving history, supplied when assigning quotes.

In hard numbers, 45.3 out of 1,000 Ram 2500 drivers applying for an insurance policy have previously had a DUI, which made it the highest out of any vehicle-to-be-insured by a long shot. The U.S. national average amongst all models was 17.9 drivers out of 1,000.

The scales aren’t just slightly tipped toward Ram 2500 buyers, they’re pulling it down by an entire rusty truck bed full of beer. Following in the number two and three spots are the Chevrolet S-10; and the BMW 4 Series.

The results don’t help to uplift the image of pickup truck drivers. On the opposite end of the spectrum – vehicles with the drivers least likely to have a DUI on their record – were the Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Santa Fe, and Toyota Sienna.
