Roush Hour: American tuner breathes on Ford Super Duty pickup

Upgrades to the big truck include bodywork, exhaust, and suspension tweaks

The tuners at Roush Performance have turned their attention to the recently updated Ford Super Duty line of pickup trucks and its 6.7L PowerStroke Turbo Diesel. In addition to various and sundry visual upgrades, the package they’ve just unveiled will fettle with the exhaust and add new suspenders.

Starting underneath the truck, Roush deploys a Fox 2.0 suspension system designed to enhance Super Duty’s off- and on-road performance.

After alterations, the truck is suspended up front by nitrogen-charged coilovers with tuned springs, preset with two inches of lift to level the truck’s stance compared to a stock machine. The new rear shocks use internal floating pistons that should provide a comfortable ride and improve off-road capability. Natty 20-inch satin black Roush wheels have been added, wrapped in 35-inch General Tire Grabber AT/X tires.

Peeking out from behind those meats are performance-minded front brake rotors and pads, items which will likely offer additional stopping power for towing or daily driving — not that the current Super Duty was any slouch, but more braking capability is always welcome when towing in the mountains.

The crew also added a new DPF-back exhaust, which means the new piping begins after the diesel particulate filter. This is important for keeping the truck legal but it must be noted that everything ahead of this filter – turbo, catalytic converter, and the filter itself – largely determines the amount and type of racket a diesel truck makes. DPF-back systems do often improve airflow, potentially increasing power, and there will be some change to the exhaust note.

It’ll be easy to spot one of these beasts in traffic, as they will be wearing a unique Roush-styled grille bearing new lighting signatures and the brand’s name in bold lettering. Paint-matched fender flares and a graphics package are other add-ons. The team threw some Roush items at the interior, as well.

The 2021 Roush Super Duty starts at $14,900 over factory MSRP in America and comes with a three-year limited warranty, just like a factory model.
