Speeding driver tells Oakville police they’re 'not geographically good'

As a driver, if you spot those red cherries flashing in your rearview mirror and you’re being signalled to pull over, chances are you’ve done something wrong — or at least something that traffic police didn’t appreciate.

Most of the time, it’s best to shut up and accept the ticket when you’re caught speeding — there are few excuses that’ll get you out of one with the exception, perhaps in some cases, of rushing someone in medical distress to the hospital.

This week, the Halton Regional Police Service Oakville District (HRPS) nabbed a driver going 103 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on Neyagawa Boulevard, a roadway south of the 407 Highway in Oakville. The person behind the wheel was in the wrong, having been clocked going 43 km/h over the posted limit, but according to information posted to the HRPS’s Twitter account, they still had an excuse: “I am not geographically good.”

The last time we checked, being good or bad at geography doesn’t mean it’s fine to break the law. What does that even mean? That they were lost and didn’t know the limit? That they couldn’t tell how much ground their vehicle was covering in real time? 

The HRPS called BS, too, explaining that it’s “not an excuse when [you’re] driving 43 km/h over the speed limit.”

The department also said that there was a child in the rear seat, which was an even greater cause for concern.

Police are using this as a reminder for drivers to slow down and follow the rules of the road. And also, keep your BS excuses to yourself, because they’ve heard it all.
