I haven’t counted, but I’m pretty sure I just l ined up more letters than you’ll find in an entire can of alphabet soup. Better grab a big spoon then, because it looks like Stuttgart is about to throw six more into the bowl.
A spy photographer in Colorado caught this heavily camouflaged Benz parked alongside a row of Mercedes’ other EQs. Between the recent announcement of the EQS and the promised ten(!) electric models promised by the end of next year, this probably won’t be the last mule they see out and about.
Mercedes clearly wants to keep this one a surprise, as evidenced by the anonymous stick-on taillamps, loose fabric interior cladding, and steering wheel crest artfully camouflaged with gaffer tape. Still, there’s no mistaking this tester as another in the EQ family line. Note the left-side charging port, characteristic headlamps, lack of free – breathing grille or radiator vents , and that turbine-inspired interior vent.
The most interesting details in these photos are the deep channels on the hood. Assuming an upscaled EQS SUV would follow the sedan’s soap-like styling, these are probably structural stampings. Inside, we’d anticipate the SUV to largely mirror the technologies and comforts of the sedan – just stretched a little taller.

Building on Mercedes-Benz’s modular ‘Electric Vehicle Architecture’ platform, the new model should boast ample interior space and the glorious flat floor that characterizes so many EVs. This shared platform is a big step, enabling the brand to bring lots of newly-lettered models to market in less time, and without dividing their focus on analysis, research, and development.
Adding another layer of significance, Mercedes is set to apply these lessons to debut a scaled-down, dedicated compact ‘MMA’ platform in or around 2025. It’s all happening remarkably quickly , and we’re excited to be along for the ride.
