With a snorkel and factory winch, this horse is made for water

In the face of an introduction best described as “challenging,” Ford is nevertheless forging ahead with announcing various special editions and new trims for its Bronco. The latest, courtesy of Ford spox Mike Levine on Twitter? A new Everglades trim, set to show up next summer.

Actually, details are scanty as to whether the Everglades is an entirely new trim; or if it’s a package which can be added to existing models. The latter would place it in the same category as the Sasquatch option, a group of kit that’s able to be fitted to any Bronco save for the ones on which it is already standard equipment.

According to Ford, the Bronco Everglades will come with a factory-installed snorkel and winch, suggesting this thing will be meant for the occasional dunk in water.

If so, expect it to have the rubberized floors found in the existing Badlands trim, a spec which also includes integrated floor drains and marine-grade vinyl seats.

(By the way, your author sampled such a machine last week and can attest that 21 st- century vinyl buckets share absolutely nothing with the type of seats once installed in base model vehicles decades ago. In other words, they’re wholly appropriate in a rig of this type and price.)

Your off-road author welcomes this arms race between Jeep and Ford, since it is forcing both automakers to innovate their way into the hearts and minds (and wallets) of consumers instead of resting on laurels.

Powertrain details (and visual cues) also remain a mystery for this new Everglades but its safe to speculate the package, like the Sasquatch, will be available on most configurations of this Wrangler-fighter.

We’ll remind you that Ford does listen to its fan base (well, sometimes) and chose to begin offering the Sasquatch group on manual-transmission vehicles after outcry on the internet reached crescendo levels. Whether one will have to pair Sasquatch and Everglades to equip the 35-inch Goodyear meats and Dana locking diffs remains to be seen.
