The first modern drag racing COPO Camaros that drove onto the scene in 2012 were themselves throwbacks to the machines churned out via GM’s 1960s Central Office Production Order (COPO) system, which enabled dealers to special order certain features and colours. Occasionally it was used by drag racers to order special parts back then, and today cars wearing the name are exclusively dedicated to the strip.

Chevy neglected to include power output details on the big V8 engine in the newest COPO, but according to Car and Driver , NHRA official docs point to it pushing 430 horsepower through its iron block, a forged steel crankshaft, and aluminum heads.

The non-street-legal COPO Camaro will also be available with two LS-based engines – a naturally aspirated 7.0L COPO 427; and the supercharged 5.7L LSX-based 350 SC – but all will pass power to the tires through an ATI Racing TH400 three-speed automatic transmission.

Pricing has been set at US$105,500 for the 9.4L; US$117,500 for the 427; and US$130,000 for the 350.
