Heading into 2021, the Q50 sees some minor changes to some of the standard equipment, but otherwise carries over.

The Luxe’s cabin is attractively detailed and marked by its lengthy list of standard equipment. It runs from heated eight-way power front seats and a power moonroof; to remote keys that store the climate, audio, and driving positions in each, so different drivers always get into a car prepped for them.

While the dual display infotainment system supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, it requires a learning curve for it to become second nature. In this regard it is showing its age. Likewise, the leatherette covering the seats is lagging — from the Luxe up, leather becomes the norm.

Cabin comfort is a step above class standards with the front seats delivering excellent long-distance comfort, and there’s enough room in the rear seat to keep a pair of six-footers happy. The trunk delivers 382L of space.

The Q50 Luxe arrives with forward collision prevention with auto-braking, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and auto braking, lane departure warning with keep assist, adaptive cruise control and auto high beams. It also has rain-sensing wipers and a 360-degree camera.

The Infiniti Q50 arrives with a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine. In the case of the featured Luxe, it produces 300 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque at 1,600 rpm. The same V6 produces 400 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque in the top Red Sport model. The early entry point of the torque brings urgency off the line, a strong mid-range and a run to 100 km/h of 5.6 seconds.

It drives all four wheels through a seven-speed automatic that not only rev matches on downshifts, it learns the driver’s style and adapts the shifting to suit. The all-wheel-drive system then sends all of its power to the rear wheels during normal driving. However, it can send up to 50 per cent forward when needed — it monitors throttle position along with wheel and vehicle speeds to arrive at the best power split. The lot can also be tailored to suit through the Standard, Sport, Snow, Eco and Personal driving modes.

The suspension is sorted and does a good job of controlling body roll without sacrificing cruising comfort. The steering follows this lead by delivering the right feel and feedback across the board. Sport mode puts a little more heft in the wheel, which makes it feel sharper. It all comes together to make the Q50 a potent sports sedan.

Transport Canada does not list any recalls for the 2021 Infiniti Q50.

The Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gives the Infiniti Q50 Good ratings in all crash tests, although it is not rated for the small front offset test on the driver or passenger side. It gets a Superior for forward collision prevention without option equipment, but a Marginal for headlight performance.

The projected resale value of the 2021 Infiniti Q50 Luxe all-wheel-drive in 2024, after being driven an average of 20,000 km/year, is $23,250.
