A small propeller plane was forced to make an emergency landing on Highway 407 near Markham, Ontario this morning.

Images and video of the aircraft parked in the left lanes of the Express Toll Route near the Woodbine Avenue off-ramp have been flying around social media, though there doesn’t appear to be any footage of the plane actually landing. Yet.

York Regional Police confirmed that the plane, a Piper PA-28 belonging to the Toronto Caribbean Flying Club, took off from Buttonville Airport moments before experiencing mechanical troubles that forced its pilot(s) to look for a makeshift runway. Three lanes of the highway were blocked as emergency crews responded.

Two people were seen exiting the aircraft, which appears undamaged, and there are no reports of any injuries, though the OPP’s investigation is ongoing.

Local drivers quickly took to Twitter to comment on the scene, with many saying they hoped for the pilot’s sake that the plane was equipped with a transponder. Those toll route fines are no joke.
