A man in Northern Ontario is facing charges for consuming liquor in one of the places you absolutely never ever should.

OPP in East Algoma, a community between Sudbury and Thunder Bay, received a call that a pick-up truck was moving erratically west of the town of Blind River on Highway 17 and Highway 129. The caller reported that the driver was acting like he was impaired. The person who made the call said that the driver of the truck nearly hit them and that they also watched the truck cross the centre line several times.

Police were able to track down the pick-up thanks to the Good Samaritan who called it in, and found the 50-year-old driver sitting on the back of his tailgate having a drink next to the highway. The type of alcoholic beverage wasn’t disclosed, which is for the best because no booze brand is going to want their product promoted with a dude who’s drinking in the back of his truck next to a road.

The driver, who was arrested at the scene and is due in court next month, had his vehicle towed and it was sent to the impound. 

This guy didn’t give an excuse (or at least one wasn’t reported) but the wild things officers are told when ticketing people are endless. Earlier this year , a motorist who was pulled over for impaired driving told police he was motoring on home because he’d decided he was “too drunk” to drive. Honest? Yes. Stupid? Absolutely. 

Folks, don’t drink and drive, but also don’t drink and drive and then drink some more on the side of the road.
